Equality and Diversity

Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is committed to promoting good mental health and reducing health inequalities for everyone living in Somerset regardless of age, ethnic origin, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation and social class.

We are committed to promote equality of access and identify and eliminate any discrimination in what we do.  We are committed to ensure our staff are treated fairly, with dignity and respect and afforded equality of opportunity to develop to their full potential.

As a public body, Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is bound by equality legislation to comply with the three duties to promote equality in the areas of disability, gender and race. We are required to develop and put into place equality schemes outlining what we will do to promote disability, gender and race equality.

These duties have been included in our Single Equality Scheme published on this webpage.

We have recognised we need to go beyond these duties to include all areas of diversity included in our work. As well as disability, gender and race, our new Single Equality Scheme will therefore also include age, religion or belief and sexual orientation. The scheme will also enable us to further meet our obligations to provide services to the population of Somerset which are open, equally accessible and culturally competent to all sections of the local community without discrimination.

The leaders within our Trust will participate in ongoing communication with our staff at all levels in order to achieve continuous improvement within Equality and Diversity. The Trust will work with partners outside the organisation to demonstrate its commitment to Equality and Diversity at all levels and in everything we do, we will consider how we can ensure we do not consciously or unconsciously discriminate against or disadvantage individuals or groups, and we will seek opportunities to promote equality and diversity wherever we can.
