October 2009 - Nursing Conference
The Trust held a very successful Nursing Conference on 7 October
2009, which was attended by over a hundred delegates, the majority
being registered nurses in practice in the Trust.
A highlight of the day was a talk by Ray Walker, one of the
Prime Minister’s Commissioners on the future of nursing and
midwifery, who has has a background in mental health.
Our conference was the first event in the commission’s programme
of engagement with nurses and others around the “hot topics” and
“consensus issues” raised so far.
Other topics covered included nursing in Zanzibar, the launch of
the implementation of the Trust's Nursing Strategy, the
results and recommendations of the Trust’s audit on the quality of
clinical supervision for nurses along with an interesting session
involving Somerset Advocacy and people with Learning Disabilities
on what it is like to receive a mental health service.
