Every month we celebrate a team and/or individual staff member who has gone above and beyond their role to deliver great patient care, better patient or carer experience or who have truly demonstrated the Trust’s values in their work in whatever role they have – front-line, back office or support staff.
This month’s Employee of the Month is Sonia Cadwallader, Dental Nurse at Bridgwater Dental Access Centre.
Sonia was nominated by Andy Sprod, Clinical Director who said:
“Following training in Intermediate Life Support, which also covered sepsis awareness training, Sonia was able to use her knowledge and skills to identify a case of sepsis in the community.
“One of her neighbours had not been feeling well, but had not wanted to contact any health services. After speaking with her neighbour and his family, Sonia became very concerned about his condition. Sonia contacted ambulance services and raised her concerns that she thought her neighbour may have sepsis. She felt that her concerns were not fully acknowledged and insisted that she felt the patient needed admission for sepsis. The ambulance crew did then take her neighbour to hospital, where it was confirmed that he had sepsis.
“After admission to Taunton Musgrove Park Hospital he eventually made a full recovery. Well done Sonia for identifying potential sepsis and being insistent that her neighbours and ambulance crew act on her concerns and potentially saving her neighbour’s life.”
