Rowan ward is an acute mental health inpatient unit. We are very fortunate to have a spacious garden for all the patients to enjoy, particularly those that have restricted leave and may feel confined.
Earlier this year we set the task to make this space even better and within regular gardening groups we created wild flowers borders and planted different fruits around the site.
We have had our ups and downs, and unfortunately our wild flower bed was obliterated in a gardening accident.
Through a fortunate stroke of luck we appealed to Yeovil District Council and the Yeovil in Bloom team for donations.
With thanks to Lesley Jellyman, Steve Fox and the team we received an incredible donation of 550 plants and other local donations.
The commitment from Rowan ward patients and staff has been an absolute success and we are proud to have been awarded a Silver Gilt from Yeovil in Bloom.
A patient has described our newly created garden as a “sanctuary” and others have spent long periods of time sitting and relaxing.
We have had excellent feedback from patients, friends, families and staff.
With a new donation of about 200 tulip bulbs the garden should continue in its splendour into spring.
Lets keep the momentum going!
