Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for providing mental health services on Priory Health Park in Wells, today reassured local patients, their carers and families, that there are no plans to withdraw any services or close the mental health ward located on the site.
Andy Heron, Chief Operating Officer for Somerset Partnership explained the Trust position and said:
“I am pleased to be able to confirm that the Trust has no plans to withdraw any services or close any mental health inpatient beds in Wells.
“We have been looking at the configuration of beds and services at St Andrews and The Bridge as part of a wider review of our mental health services and we know that these are potentially under-utilised sites. We need to consider how we can make better use of the site and we are examining whether there are additional services we can provide there. Our clear preference is to invest in the Priory Health park site, to expand the inpatient services and increase the clinical expertise available to patients.”
“With this in mind we are examining the options for developing these new services where there may be space for expansion.
“We are fortunate in having a highly committed and experienced group of staff based in Wells and this is very prominent in our thinking as we begin to consider options to further improve our services in the future.”
“I should clarify that this work to look at options is only just beginning and is likely to take several months.”
