Somerset Partnership Community Hospitals Consultation and Board Review

Date: 01 February 2018

Last September, Somerset Partnership decided that in order to maintain patient safety in the light of the deteriorating staffing position, we needed urgently to consolidate our 222 inpatient hospital beds into 10 community hospital sites and temporarily close the inpatient wards at Dene Barton, Chard and Shepton Mallet Community Hospitals.  In October, the Board reviewed the position, and agreed the temporary closures should remain in place. The Board also commissioned a further review to be presented at the February 2018 meeting and launched a public consultation during December 2017 and January 2018 to inform this review.

The Trust received more than 350 consultation responses and contacts from the public and members of staff, and the Trust Board is grateful to all who contributed their thoughts and time.

The papers the Board will use to inform its discussions are published here. The meeting will be held at 9.00am on Tuesday 6 February 2018 in the Conference Room, The Academy, Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 5DA . For anyone who plans to attend the meeting, there is guidance on how to ask questions of the Board here.

A final note, the Trust will continue to support any patients or families affected by the temporary closures, and that support can be accessed by contacting the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service on  01278 432 022 or emailing PALS@sompar.nhs.uk.
