Volunteers play an important role for people who use our service, their families and carers by providing support to our healthcare professionals.
Somerset Partnership recognise the value a volunteer brings to the Trust, it supports and encourages individuals who have chosen to give their time and energy freely to benefit the quality of our services, and contribute to enhancing service users and carers experience.
Volunteering in the NHS is very rewarding it can really benefit your self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing, while you make a valuable contribution to the quality of people’s life. You gain valuable experience and it can also be a stepping stone into a new career. No previous experience is required and training and support will be provided. You will also get your travel expenses paid.
Somerset Partnership provides a wide variety of volunteering opportunities such as:
- activity support on wards
- befriending in the community
- peer support on acute wards
- supporting carers
- administrative support
What experience do I need?
We are looking for people aged over 18 from our local communities who want to make a difference to the lives of others.
Volunteers are not expected to have any particular knowledge of hospitals or healthcare; everyone can bring something valuable to volunteering. The important requirement is a desire to help and the ability to offer a regular half-day session a week. You will receive an induction to volunteering and training where appropriate.
How much time do I need to give?
This is very much dependant on each volunteers individual circumstances and how much time you are able to offer. We would like volunteers to stay with us as long as possible and we would ask where possible for a minimum of 6 months commitment to your volunteering role.
How do I apply?
If you are interested in volunteering and would like to discuss the opportunities that are available, please contact Next Steps Volunteer Bureau on 01278 664180. A current list of volunteering posts available with Somerset Partnership are listed on the Somerset You Can Do website.
All volunteers will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, references and a health declaration.
